DAY 9 June 10th

DAY 9: June 10th

Australian Open starts today with Men’s Singles. Alex and John were playing at different clubs. I went to Broadbeach Bowls Club to watch our BC boy Alex.

All disciplines have been divided into sections with 4 players to a section. Singles is played to 21 points, Pairs is 3 bowls 18 ends, Fours is 2 bowls 18 ends. Jacks are respotted on the 2m mark. The winner of the section goes onto the quarter finals.

As with many of our Canadian contingency this is Alex’s first international tournament. He played very well during his 3 games improving in each one. A win was not in his cards but he was pleased with his bowling.

Jaymee and Nathaniel met us at the club and we went to Surfers Paradise. Originally named Elston then renamed Surfers Paradise after a popular hotel. The first high rise was built in 1959 then a 30 year boom made this coastal city one known for its high rise skyline and a dream holiday destination. There are numerous shops, cafes, restaurants, night clubs and attractions along Cavill Street for the whole family.

We chose to dine at the Hard Rock Cafe, which was great food and a trip down memory lane
