Carnarvon Cup 2014 bows out with a playoff

image Summary of 2014 Carnarvon Cup

A total of 39 members signed up, with an average attendance of 26. Among the members we had 10 novices, which was very encouraging.

We collected a total of $195 ($5.00 per member.)

Started on May 13th and finished Sept 2nd.

Play was “pairs,” based on random draw each week.

Points awarded: 3 for win, 2 for tie, 1 for attendance

Allocation of funds received from sign up entry:

    First……………….$78.00 (Mel Jones)
    Second……………58.00 (Jeff Machan)
    Third……………….39.00 (Harnam Grewal)
    Fourth………….…20.00 (Jim Cline)
    Total…………..$195.00

The final day ended up with a four-way tie for third place.  Final places were determined by a “one-bowl roll off,” with the third and fourth position being decided by closest to the jack. Al and I felt this would be the fairest method for the play off. We set the mat and the jack and position of play arrived at by random draw.

After completion of this year’s event, I continue to believe and support that “straight” pairs provides a better format for this draw.

After six years of Carnarvon Cup,  I have decided to step down and am pleased to advise you that Andrew Harley has agreed to take over the men’s league for next year.
