Updated 2018-10-17 with link to notice about the Winter 2019 session.
TO ALL BOWLERS NEW TO SHORT MAT BOWLING
There is no need to give up bowling for the year after the outdoor season closes in late September or early October; you are encouraged to try short mat bowling that we play every day in Anderson House in the fall and winter months.
Short mat bowling uses your regular outside bowls and is played on a mat 45 feet by 6 feet. During the regular season, we have two mats in play, which we put in place after the lockers are moved around the end of September.
There are two ways for you to play:
- Join in one of the nine Daily Draw casual games every week, which occur at least once every day of the week and twice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Booking for Daily Draws will commence late September.
- Become a league player, by registering in one of the three leagues. You need to register for a league by December 9, 2018 to allow time for all the games to be scheduled before the start of the 2019 Winter Session. Here is the registration form for league play. After December 9, the next opportunity to enroll in a league will be for the Fall 2019 session, at times to be announced.
Short mat bowling starts late this year
The Fall Session in 2018 opened November 13, once the Anderson House renovations were complete. There are some training session for novices.. They are primarily to acquaint new bowlers with the game and encourage them to sign up. Look at the online calendar for “Refresher Bowls”.
You use an online booking system to reserve a place in the coaching sessions and social games. The booking is accessed through our website calendar using a program called RSVP.
Please come and join us and keep your bowling going until next spring! Last year we had some 65 players playing short mat.
Here again is the registration form for league play. For further details of how we organize the short mat sessions, see Short Mat at Oak Bay.
Good bowling!
