Invitation to play the short mat game

Updated 2018-10-17 with revised notice of a shortened Fall 2018 session. Links in the text below refer to the Winter 2018 session and will be updated in due course.

Notice about the Fall 2018 and Winter 2019 short mat sessions.

Full short mat sessions will not re-commence until the January-April 2019 winter session, because of the Anderson House renovations.

We hope to have a shortened Fall 2018 session commencing around the end of November.

Details will be published sometime in October.

TO ALL BOWLERS NEW TO SHORT MAT BOWLING

There is no need to give up bowling for the year after the outdoor season closes in late September or early October; you are encouraged to try short mat bowling that we play every day in Anderson House in the fall and winter months.

Short mat bowling uses your regular outside bowls and is played on a mat 45 feet by 6 feet. During the regular season, we have two mats in play, which we put in place after the lockers are moved around the end of September.

There are two ways for you to play:

  1. Join in one of the nine Daily Draw casual games every week, which occur at least once every day of the week and twice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Booking for Daily Draws will commence late September.
  2. Become a league player, by registering in one of the four leagues. You need to register for a league by December 10, 2017 to allow time for all the games to be scheduled before the start of the 2018 Winter Session.  Here is the registration form for league play. After December 10, the next opportunity to enroll in a league will be for the Fall 2018 session, at times to be announced.

Short mat bowling starts late this year

The Fall Session in 2018 will open around the beginning of November, or whenever the Anderson House renovations is complete. There will likely be some training session for novices around that time. They are primarily to acquaint new bowlers with the game and encourage them to sign up.Watch the website for further details.

You use an online booking system to reserve a place in the coaching sessions and social games. The booking is accessed through our website calendar using a program called RSVP.

How to access RSVP

Access the RSVP system through the online short mat calendar. This link is also available via the CALENDAR  menu that is displayed on the navigation bar of every page of our website.

The website calendar always displays the current month. Advance the calendar to the next month by clicking on the single right facing > between two blue boxes top left corner labelled CALENDAR and TODAY.

Click on the coaching/social link in the calendar for the event that you are interested in joining. The RSVP interface is self-explanatory, needing you to enter name, e-mail address, telephone number and RSVP selection. Once that is done, click the Join button and you’re in!

Any problems phone Andrew Harley at 250 592 8762 or 250 634 3719.

Click on the “How to access RSVP” section title above to close this explanatory text.

Please come and join us and keep your bowling going until next spring! Last year we had some 65 players playing short mat.

Here again is the registration form for league play. For further details of how we organize the short mat sessions, see Short Mat at Oak Bay.

Good bowling!
