This year we had two short mat leagues. The first league saw 7 groups of 8 players and the second league had 5 groups of 8 players. Having this level of participation was unexpected but great to see. Participants reported a great level of competition, a host of incredible shots, lots of friendly games, and a barrel of laughs. At times when you were standing outside of Anderson House you could swear a curling game was underway with shouts of “sweep”, “take it out” and “we need a guard up from”. Who knew there would so many similar terms. All in all these leagues were a great success. That success was due to the participation by members, the scheduling and score keeping by Gopal Gowda and the organization by Garry Anderson. To celebrate the end of league play a Chinese supper was held on March 10 with approximately 75 members and guests attending. Was that a success – you bet. Garry Anderson arranged the supper and coordinated the kitchen volunteers. To name all the people who helped with the supper the list would be a long one and I’d hate to miss anyone so I’ll just say thank you to all that helped out. We had folks setting up and taking down the chairs and tables, working the bar, delivering the food, setting it out and packaging the left overs, vacuuming the carpet, cleaning the dishes, doing the 50/50, taking the pictures, bouncers stopping all the fisticuffs that broke out (okay I threw that one in to see if you actually thought there were fights but there weren’t any) and the list of people helping goes on. Everyone deserves a pat on the back and we all thank you and I hope your Chinese cookie fortune rings true for everyone. WHATS NEXT – on March 17th its Saint Patricks Day and to celebrate this Irish tradition we will be having both outdoor bowling and croquet followed by Guinness, Green Beer and a BBQ of regular and veggie burgers.
