Short Mat Lawn bowling is a favourite for the winter months when we cannot bowl outdoors. A few years ago, prior to Covid, there used to be 3 inter club short mat yearly tournaments held between various clubs. Sidney, Lake Hill and Oak Bay. These tournaments were always fully subscribed and a lot of fun.

Lake Hill hosted and Oak Bay supplied two additional mats for this tournament, four mats in total between the two clubs.

Held on Friday night Saturday and finals on Sunday.

Finals were held at Lake Hill between 16 teams entered the competition.  Only four were standing, two from Oak Bay, one from Gordon Head and one from Victoria lawn bowling club.

After the semifinals were played, teams were playing for first second and third and fourth place at the Lake Hill club on Sunday.

First place went to Brent Jansen, Ray Dilba, and Karen Evans.

Second place went to a Gordon Head team, third place went to the Victoria lawn bowling club.

Fourth place, Brent Merchant, Tanis Ranger and Andrew Harley.

These games were very challenging, a lot of fun and a lot of very good bowls were had by all players.

Thank you to Lake Hill and all the volunteers that made this possible. Shona from Lake Hill undertook tournament organizer and did a fabulous job for her first tournament and I’m sure not to be her last as it was a success. I would also like to thank the umpires who volunteered their time and anyone I missed.
