Men’s Provincial Fours Tournament at Gordon Head Lawn Bowling Club June 19 20th and 21st. The Provincials is a prestigious tournament featuring some of the top bowlers from BC who relish the competitive spirit. Players from the mainland (Vancouver) and various locations across Vancouver Island participate in this event, and anyone from BC can sign up. The gold medalists earn the opportunity to compete at the national level against teams from all over Canada.
This year’s tournament consists of six 14-end games over the first two days, organized in a round-robin format. Each game lasts approximately two hours and 15 minutes, leading to a total of nine games throughout the 3 day tournament. This format determines the top eight teams that will advance to the knockout rounds on the third day, ultimately leading to the final four teams competing for gold, silver, and bronze their medals. The nationals will take place at the North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club, which features artificial turf. It is said that in the summertime, the temperatures can be high enough to fry an egg on their greens, thanks to their unique location and limited air movement. We had several players from Oak Bay competing in the Provincials, and it was fantastic to see such strong representations from Oak Bay and other local clubs.
Our team consisted of four umpires. We would like to thank: -Gordon Head Lawn Bowling Club for hosting such a wonderful well organized run tournament and Dan Bitterlich for commentary streaming with Geoff Poulton – they did a fabulous job.
Gold Medalists:
Brent Jansen, David Mathie, George Cubiss, and Steve Foster will proudly represent the British Columbia Fours team at the nationals from August 16-20.
