The McEwan Pairs, a club men’s pairs tournament for 2026, was played on Tuesday, 14thJuly. As with a lot of these tournaments, the draw changes as a some the players were unable to make it that morning. Fortunately, we did have several players who filled in the gaps admirably. Many thanks to Arne Langston, Jack Showers, and Rod Armitage. I want to thank Rod for stepping in; he came expecting the Carnarvon Cup but ended up playing all day in the McEwan Cup.
Tuesday morning started with the usual setting up of 5 rinks on the East Green; thank you for all the help in getting this going.
Jennifer Harley was responsible for the registration desk, collecting fees and distributing scorecards
The weather cooperated with a sunny day with temperatures in the low twenties. It was very comfortable weather which was very different from last year when the temperature reached the high twenties. We did activate the misting system for cooling everybody down, thank you Brent.
We had 10 teams of Men’s Pairs ready to go. Each team played 3 matches of ten ends each. With tea/coffee/goodies/lunch breaks between games. After some confusion with regards to the score keeping, we determined the first, second and third place finishers
The winners were:
1st place, Ian McMorran with Kory Swain
2nd place, John Mayston-Taylor with Ray Dilba
3rd place Stu Fraser with Denis Chevrier
As always, behind the scenes, there were a lot of helpers.
Susan Buss and the kitchen team, of Doug, Sandy and Carole. Susan also took care of the bar, ensuring we were all well-hydrated.
Andrew Harley, Jennifer Harley and Robert Game for providing support for registration and scoring.
Gloria Brown for handling photos.
All-in-all, a great day thanks to players and helpers.
We have donated $60 to the kitchen and $40 to the club, paid out of the tournament entry fees.
