The Juan De Fuca Lawn Bowling Club hosted the annual Bowl for the Cure fundraiser on September 19 & 20.  This is the final BSI tournament of the season and has sold out year after year. A format is a traditional quaddie, and teams can have as many players as they wish. Team membership can range from 4 to 12 members but there is no upper limit. Team members split the games but each game must include two males and two females.  The tournament raises money for cancer through the entry fees, “spiders”, raffle items donated by teams, 50/50 draws, donations from individuals, clubs and businesses, interesting bowling challenges and the list goes on. There is no dress code but participants often wear a variety of costume-like attire. The final amount raised has not been announced yet but the raffle alone raised over $4,000.  Our club was well represented as you can see from the attached pictures. Missing from those pictures were Mike M, and Rick C.  Our own Marian B won over $800 by winning the first of two 50/50 draws and to top things off she won a large gift basket during the raffle draw – a lucky lady, that’s for sure. A total of 32 teams with over 200 bowlers and spectators attended and enjoyed beautiful weather, friendly sportsmanship and the pride that comes with helping the Canadian Cancer Society. This is the largest tournament of the year and it takes an army of volunteers to pull it off. Our thanks go out to all the volunteers at Juan De Fuca who make this tournament such a success year after year.
