Canada Day this year more than ever was an occasion on which to celebrate the good fortune we have living in this country.
A large gathering of friends who share a passion for the great sport of lawn bowls participated in this year’s tournament and dinner. Donna Blackstock once again organized the event, assisted by many members who typically work mostly in the background but nevertheless are essential to the enjoyment we come to anticipate. Thank you to everyone who made the day a great success.
As in past years there were many prizes awarded; two for spiders, a 50/50 draw and for those fortunate enough not to need to redeem their Wrong Bias Insurance voucher, there were gift certificates to a local restaurant. Many door prizes, most apparently containing some liquid, finished the draws.
Club members continued their generous support of the Child Amputee Program (CHAMP). Once the final total is known it will be posted to the chalkboard outside Anderson House. The money raised was mostly through the various fun “shakedowns” described above.
If a picture is worth a thousand words it might be best to end this narrative here and let our website visitors decide for themselves whether Oak Bay lawn bowlers have a whole lot of fun when coming together on Canada Day.
