What an amazing day! The weather was perfect and our greens were full of enthusiastic bowlers. We had more than 70 bowlers and volunteers from Oak Bay and Central Saanich at this social lawn bowling event. Every team was composed of a mix of Central Saanich and Oak Bay players, which made a perfect opportunity to meet new friends and for others a chance to catch up with friends they haven’t seen for awhile.
As people arrived, coffee was on and goodies were out. Thanks to Garry Anderson and his volunteers for keeping the goodie and coffee table full throughout the day.
Gloria Brown took a group picture at 9:45 AM. Then two six-end games were played before lunch.
Lunch was a hit! Thanks to The Kensington Revera who sponsored the lunch. Everyone enjoyed a sandwich, salad, dessert and drink supplied by Food for Thought.
After lunch we all surrounded the west green for a spider. Congratulations to Jeff Machan for winning the bottle of wine and the passes to Butchart Gardens.
Our final game was played in the early afternoon, ice cream treats were distributed and players gathered in Carnarvon House for final thank-yous and prizes. Congratulations to our three-game winners.

After our prizes were given to our three-game winners, there was a draw for the rest of the prizes. Once again, the Kensington donated to our day with prizes– 10 gift cards for lunch for four. Thanks also to COBS Bread, Shelbourne Plaza for donating two boxes of six scones, and to M&M Food Market on Shelbourne and Silver Rill Corn for the bags they donated with the gift cards purchased. Other gift cards were purchased by our club.
It takes a lot of people to put on these events, so please know that all your work and effort was very much appreciated. Thanks to Chris Slade for event scheduling, Garry Anderson and his kitchen volunteers, Gloria Brown for photography and to Brent Jansen, Louise Mason and Joan Firkins for their part in making this a successful event. Lastly, one more shout out to Melinda Cottingham, from the Kensington, for sponsoring our tournament and supplying us an amazing lunch and gift prizes. Melinda had a great time bowling and we hope to see her out on the green in future.
