Our youngest club member Adam Ross was selected recently as one of two recipients of the 2024 Young Birders Award presented by the BC Field Ornithologists!
Adam is 15 and he started birding several years ago when he encountered a Christmas Bird Count at Panama Flats. Adam has been a keen birder ever since with his parents’ support and their provision of early morning transportation to birding events often fairly far afield. He volunteers at the Rocky Point Observatory and his knowledge of bird types, habitats, songs, unique characteristics, migration patterns, etc. are extensive, impressive and always expanding. He has participated in many bird banding activities and on family vacations has left exploring the new country or town to his family as often as possible in order to follow birding opportunities in the new locale.
Adam has also given public education sessions to interested groups in the community which has shown his love of birds and birding. These presentations have been very well received and he is a sought-after speaker as a new presentation is completed. If you see him around the club, please congratulate him and, if you have a “bird question,” please put it to him!!
