An impatient group of club members were not willing to wait for Opening Day in the spring to enjoy an outdoor game of bowls. This group instead gathered at the club on January 1st to bring in the new year with a game on the green.
It didn’t hurt that unlike Manitoba, where the temperature plunged to minus 30, these members were able to play under sunny skies and a relatively balmy 6 degrees.
Following the game everyone gathered in Carnarvon House to enjoy a traditional Danish dish known as Æbleskiver. One Æbleskiver pan was loaned by Dane Brent Jansen to accompany another provided by Dane Anne Payne. Anne, who along with Honorary Dane Sandy Armitage, whipped up this delicious treat.
As the winter weeks pass and the outdoor season draws nearer, much behind the scene work will take place to ensure 2019 will be another great year. On a nice warm summer day what better place to be than on the green rolling bowls with friends. That’s the early message these New Year’s Day bowlers are sending to their fellow members.
