As part of the Victoria Classic croquet tournament being held in town, our club hosted the Novice Championship portion of the event. Eight players, including three members of the Oak Bay club, competed over two days. After nine rounds of 45 minute games, Oak Bay member Jim Howard emerged atop the standings with fellow Oak Bay member Jack Showers finishing as runner up. This was an association croquet event which is a different game than the “Snake” version regularly played at Oak Bay. The novice players were faced with learning the challenging strategic elements of this different version of the game. Thanks to veteran croquet player Pierre Dunn for organizing and running the tournament.
