The OBLBC submitted a request for a municipal grant to assist the Club in upgrading its five bathrooms. The Club was asked to speak to the request at a Council meeting in the summer.
Out of almost thirty applications, we were fortunate to secure one of the grants. The $3300 we received came with the requirement that the funds be spent before the end of December.
A request for volunteers was sent out and the project got off to a quick start in October in Anderson House. The cubicle walls and dated corner sink and cabinet in the men’s washroom were removed along with the toilets, soap dispensers and towel dispensers in the ladies and multi gender washrooms to allow for painting to be completed before waterproof vinyl flooring was laid.
Work then went on to Carnarvon with the painting followed by new flooring in both bathrooms.
A new sink, cabinet and tile backsplash was installed in the Anderson House men’s bathroom.
A new porcelain sink and tile backsplash replaced the marble sink in the Anderson ladies washroom.
New laminate countertops were installed in the Carnarvon ladies and men’s washrooms. The ladies had a second new sink and taps installed as well.
New LED lights were installed to brighten each of the rooms.
Vinyl baseboard was installed in Carnarvon and wooden base quarter round was installed in the Anderson bathrooms.
A new piece of artwork was selected and added to each room for colour and interest.
The Club had set aside $4000 to be combined with the grant money to complete the work and about $3200 of that was spend. That works out that our five bathrooms were upgraded for $6500 or $1300 per bathroom. The multi-gender bathroom in Anderson received only limited attention with painting, lighting, a new coat rack, refurbished mirror and new toilet roll stand.
A team of Club members came together to complete the project successfully. They coordinated their work to limit inconvenience to the Club activities and get the areas back functioning as soon as possible.
The merry band of club volunteers were:
-Brent Jansen- plumbing new sinks, fix urinals
-Ray Dilba- electrical, new lighting
-Mary Magill- masking areas for painting
-Cathy Denny- painting/art installation
-Ed Walker- carpentry on new Carnarvon countertops install
-Jan Price- accounting, new signage
-Gloria Brown- storage of laminate countertop, on-line orders
-Lorne Cowley- tile cutting, laminate pickup, new electric baseboard install
-Doug Francis- remove and replace toilets, soap and towel dispensers, tile cutting, materials procurement of cabinets, sinks etc., recycling
-Lauren Charlton – painting, tile/porcelain provision and installation, vinyl baseboard and wooden quarter round install/finish.
Thank you to everyone for putting up with the inconvenience, noise etc.
Enjoy the upgrades! We can be proud of our facilities when visitors come to join us in tournaments and events.
