First Club Singles Tournament since 2019!
Twenty bowlers signed up for the club’s singles tournament. The club had not had a singles tournament since 2019 when it was won by Linda Cowie. The twenty bowlers were randomly drawn into groups of four for a World Cup style tournament with a group stage and then an elimination stage. The group stage took place over the month of June.
The tournament was only possible thanks to the many club members who volunteered their time to act as markers. Many thanks to Helen Kempster, Michael Trickey, David Smyth, Tanis Ranger, Pat Thomas, Louise de Montigny, Sheila McCall, Raoul Wiart, Judy Black, Mary Forster, Angela Adamek, Brent Merchant and Linda Cowie who all marked games.
After the group stage was complete it was Bobbi-Jean Charlton, Mary Forster, Raoul Wiart, Kory Swain and Jerome Foenander who emerged as the group winners. The next seven best bowlers in the group stage also advanced to the elimination stage that began on Sunday, June 28th. After the pizza was devoured and the dust settled on that first exciting night of elimination the tournament was down to only four bowlers left standing.
The next night on Monday the 29th Raoul Wiart, Kory Swain, Jerome Foenander and Jack Showers returned for the semi-finals. Our hard-working photographer Gloria was there to catch the action. In one semi-final it was Raoul defeating Kory and in the other Jack prevailed over Jerome setting up a final between Raoul and Jack. The finalists kept the small but fervent crowd entertained early in the match as the two competitors were deadlocked at eight apiece after nine ends. Then Raoul turned up his play a notch and went on to win 15-8 and take the title.
Congratulations to Raoul on being the Club Singles Champion!
