South Island Singles Tournament, August 8–9, 2026

The annual South Island Singles tournament returned this past weekend, featuring 32 bowlers vying for local bragging rights. Competitors were split into four groups of eight, playing five games each under a fast-paced format: players could only score one point per end, with the first bowler to reach 7 points securing the win.

This unique structure ensured every game wrapped up within an hour. However, it also raised the stakes—games could slip away quickly if a player let an end or two get away.

Following the initial five games, players were ranked to determine the flight brackets. The top two from each group advanced to the A-Flight (quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals). The third-place finishers moved to the B-Flight, and the fourth-place finishers competed in the C-Flight (both playing semi-finals and finals).

The weather was beautifully warm but comfortable, showcasing excellent bowling and exceptional sportsmanship throughout the weekend.
