[su_heading size=”24″ margin=”10″ ]Oak Bay players pipped at the post in the Yarrow Cup—twice![/su_heading]
The Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling Club hosts the Yarrow Cup tournament every year and every year it’s a sellout with a host of teams on the waiting list.
It’s a Men’s Pairs tournament played over two days, September 10-11.
This year it was a close one for the Oak Bay players that were fortunate to secure an entry into the tournament.
Brent Jansen and Steve Foster (Gordon Head) played in the B Division finals. Their game was tied after 16 ends so an extra end was required to break the tie. It was a close one but the team from Vic West got the point and won the B Event final.
Brent Merchant and Gopal Gowda faced off against Dennis Verge and Floyd Ruttan of Gordon Head for the Yarrow Cup trophy as they were the A Division finalists. It was an extremely close game with Gordon Head leading 15 to 14 starting the last end. Dennis Verge made a lovely shot and ended our Oak Bay team’s run for the trophy; maybe next year . . .
C Event winners were Joe Fitzgerald and Jag Bains from the Lake Hill club.
A great tournament and the volunteers at CP are to be congratulated for everything they did to make the tournament such a success. A special thanks to Jaime who brought chicken wings from her condominium after the first day’s bowling—and yes, they were very tasty.
