Short Mat Tournament Nov 19/20

Short Mat Tournament Nov 19/20

Action shots from our Short Mat Tournament

The Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club ran a short mat tournament the weekend of November 19/20. We had 24 members playing triples is two pools of four teams.

We were lucky enough to have new bowlers starting their short mat career. Thanks to the coaching led by Donna Blackstock assisted by Tanis Ranger, Mary Magill and others, we have a vibrant pool of new players. Six new bowlers entered the tournament, Ray Dilba, Judy Arsenault, Karen Graham-Pasquale, Wayne La Carte, Frankie Conlin and Sharon Ross.

As an experiment we played a 7-bowl triples format, with leads playing three bowls and thirds and skips playing two bowls. This was more forgiving for the leads (especially for the new bowlers).

Each team played four games over the two days of play.

The tournament was successfully finished in Carnarvon House with a match between the two pool winners.

Karen Evans, Helen Kempster and Ray Dilba 1st Place
David Anderson, Marilyn Turpin and Sharon Ross (new bowler) 2nd Place
Brent Jansen, Lee Millar and Robert Game 3rd Place
Mary Magill, Barry Hersh and Beth Christopher 4th Place

Many thanks go to all volunteers who made the tournament successful.
