The Annual Burgers and Bowls Tournament took place on Sunday June 18. The event was well attended – 6 croquet players and approximately 50 bowlers. Additional members attended to watch and partake in the BBQ. In total, we had approximately 65 people attending.
Chris Slade did a marvellous job doing the draw. With a number of changes to the team members he had to redo the draw a number of times right up until one hour before the draw began. Hats off to you Chris for doing such great work under ever-changing parameters.
Garry Anderson was kept extremely busy organizing the kitchen crew and purchasing all of the food for this event. To all those volunteers that worked in the kitchen, we owe you numerous pats on the back. Our BBQ team of Jack Coupe, David Smyth and Brent Merchant were able to test our brand new BBQs; from numerous comments, we seemed to do a pretty good job.
In terms of prizes, Deb and John Weir won the croquet section. In the lawn bowling section, prizes went to Jim Cliff, Ronnie Stinson and Eric Goshko, who unfortunately did not win a game. The team that won the one-game prize was Barrie Bolton, Jim Howard and James Stanley. Two prizes were given out to the Mel Jones, Beth Christopher and Brian Sandercock team, and the other prize went to the Layla Godfrey, Doug Francis and Bridgette Downs team. The Grand Champion team was represented by Cathy Denny, Judy Black and Lauren Charlton. To round things off, Louise Mason and Marvella Preston-Bain split the $165 50/50 draw.
Overall, members had a great time and were pleased that the weather co-operated. Thanks to all that attended, watched and helped out. A special thanks to Gloria Brown who took all of the pictures you are about to see.
