Shirley Tucker, a long time member of the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club, turned 100 on May 9, 2017! The day prior a large group of Shirley’s family and friends gathered at the University Club of Victoria to celebrate her milestone birthday.
Oak Bay Mayor Nils Jensen stopped by to extend congratulations and best wishes to Shirley. On display were letters of congratulations that Shirley received from the Queen, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Governor General David Johnston, and California Governor Jerry Brown. What a lovely gathering it was, with many club members in attendance to celebrate with Shirley.
It’s easy to look at a senior like Shirley and ask “how does one achieve such longevity?”. Finding an answer is more difficult. A clue however could be gleaned from listening to Shirley’s remarks at our recent Semi-Annual General Meeting. Always upbeat, happy and with a sense of wit, she holds everyone’s attention. Shirley obviously derives great joy from life. She’s without doubt someone to emulate.
Happy Birthday Shirley and best wishes for many more.
