Happy 150th Birthday Canada and Happy 63rd Birthday Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club.
On this special anniversary of the founding of our country we were privileged to have The Honourable Murray Rankin, our local Member of Parliament, join us in our celebrations.
The day consisted of a fun mixed triples bowling competition with all participants having been pre-assigned to either the Red or Blue team. Bowling was followed by a BBQ dinner.
As in past years members dug deep to raise funds for the War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, which our club adopted many years ago as a good cause to support. Although the final tally is not yet known, it is expected that we will raise over $1,000 for the War Amps to allow them to assist child amputees lead full and rewarding lives.
After the Reds battled the Blues on the greens, President and Blue team leader Al Wood declared the Red team to be the official winner much to the pleasure of Ian McMorran, the spirited leader of the Red team. The Blue team, being unable to find grounds to challenge the results from the Laws of the Sport of Bowls, graciously accepted their defeat.
The dinner allowed members to enjoy the company of old friends while making new ones. Celebratory days like this take a great deal of time and effort; the rewards, however, are undoubtedly worth it. It is from events such as this that happy memories are made. Best wishes for good health and good bowling to all!
