WHATS IN STORE FOR THIS SUMMER
A new season is about to begin. The Games Committee has been hard at work making plans for a new season of activities. The following gives some insight of what you can expect this summer.
LAWN BOWLING: Starts Monday April 3. See the calendar for all draw times and days.
CROQUET: Continues every Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday at 12:45
YARDSTICK BOWLING: Thursdays on April 6, 13, 20, 27 & May 4 at 12:45. The game helps both the experienced and novice bowlers to improve their ability to deliver bowls within 3 feet of the jack when the jack placement is rotated between various lengths. It’s a great way to warm up for the regular draws and improve your draw shots.
TABLE TENNIS: Continues to be played on Fridays at 12. Everything you need to play is provided by the club so take a chance and see how you do – you just might become a new table tennis star.
SCRABBLE: Continues every Friday at 1:30pm. If you can form a word with the following 7 letters you’re an obvious expert LWOBRSE – just think of who is out on those greens.
MAH JONG: Carries on every Saturday at 1pm. This game just started last season and is well liked by those members who received the training and are now converts. If you never tried the game don’t hesitate to attend as the existing players will be more than happy to provide instruction and help you out.
OPEN HOUSES: We have three Open Houses on April 15, 22 and 29 so if you have friends or family that are interested bring them out to see our facility and the activities we provide with a membership.
OPENING DAY: Our official Opening Day Event is May 6. Members are asked to arrive prior to 1pm in advance of the remarks by the invited dignitaries and the start of play – both lawn bowling and croquet.
CARNARVON CUP: Starts Tuesday May 9. This is a men’s league that takes places every Tuesday morning starting at 9:30. No need to registrar just attend when you can. This league is men’s pairs with a random draw to determine who you will be playing with and against. With this league you don’t stay with the same partner – it changes each week.
WEDNESDAY EVENING: Starts May 10. This is a drop in draw for both lawn bowling and croquet which starts at 6pm. Who knows you might see a social group formed after the games.
NOVELTY DRAWS: This is something new that we hope all members will enjoy and support. These draws are a good way to improve your bowling skills, have fun and encourage new bowlers. This is another opportunity for members to bring friends out to try lawn bowling. These draws will take place every Sunday at 10am starting on May 7. A new Novelty Draw will be played each Sunday for that month. The Novelty Draws consist of: Consistency, Australian Pairs, Salisbury Singles, Rotational Pairs, Ultimate Bowling. Stay tuned for updates to this list.
THURSDAY SPECIAL DRAWS: This popular draw starts on May 11. The Special Draw has consistently been one of our more popular games which takes place every Thursday starting at 10:45. Bring your lunch and play two 8 end games. There is a lunch break between the two games and after the last game there is a social in Carnarvon where a few prizes are awarded.
FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL AND FAMILY NIGHT: This is an evening where you can bring guests to play lawn bowling or croquet. It’s just a fun evening followed by a social with snacks and drinks in Carnarvon House. Great time for new members to meet with more experienced members and learn a bit more about the game and to develop new friendships.
CAMPBELL CUP: This is a Women’s league that takes place every Friday morning starting at 9:45 followed by a social time with tea and coffee in Carnarvon House.
SOCIAL/CONTRACT BRIDGE: Before COVID Thursday evening bridge games were quite popular. A few of the Bridge players are discussing how this activity can start once again. More details will be announced once the organizing group have worked out the details.
