SHORT MAT BOWLERS TO 2018 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Five members of the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club – David Anderson, Andrew Harley, Brent Jansen, Mitch O’Brien and Chris Slade will compete in the 2018 Short Mat Bowls World Championships to be held in Strömstad, Sweden from March 16 to 18, 2018.

Funding for a trip across the pond and a short stay in Sweden should ideally be the least of their worries. That’s where we in the lawn bowling community come in.

David, Andrew, Brent, Mitch and Chris will be representing all Oak Bay members, past and present, as they bring invaluable recognition to our club. We can help these fellows represent our country, province and club by providing them with some relief from the many expenses they will incur.

Please help where you can and become part of this effort to “send them packing.

Our five representatives want us to make it clear that they themselves are not asking for financial help; they are willing to bear all the expenses. However, the Club Executive feel that many members may want to express their support by making a contribution.

Update February 28, 2018

This online fundraising effort has now ceased. No more Interac e-Transfer transactions or cheques can be accepted. If you wish, you can still make a cash donation, which should be given to team member David Anderson before March 8. Any late donation will still appear on the online list of donors. (Shelley Sidel, Club Treasurer, who previously collected all donations, is now busy with Membership fees for the 2018/19 year.)
