May 28, 2022 The Heart Trophy mixed fours tournament played beside the beautiful surfside greens of the Sidney lawn bowling club. Fourteen teams consisting of four players per team, two bowls per player and 56 players in total, all dressed and ready for their competitive day ahead of them. A new Umpire Wendy, well-versed in the sport, dressed in red for the many questions brought to her throughout the tournament; answering all difficult questions and situations as brought to her. The day consisted of three 12-end games.
At the start of the first game, team Oak Bay consisting of Karen Evans, David Anderson Donna Blackstock and Brent Jansen were holding two points, possibly three, while skip Brent Jansen delivered a beautiful bowl perfectly online to the jack unfortunately a little too heavy hit the jack slightly and pushed it to the opposing team’s bowl; down one. Hopefully this will not be throughout the game.
All players from Oak Bay in all positions played extremely well together. thus making it difficult for any of the three teams they played to get a break. Luckily for the OBLBC team, we came through with three wins as well as Juan de Fuca LBC Lynda Robbins’ team and Gordon Head LBC Dennis Verge’s team.
It came down to points for and against. Oak Bay, having a very fortunate point spread in the three games, won the tournament and the prize money.
We would like to thank Sidney lawn bowling club and everyone that participated with the organization and all the players that participated in the tournament to make it as enjoyable as it was. Two thumbs up.
