The 2019 Jubilee Pacific Pairs attracted 31 teams, one team shy of two full greens. The weekend weather could be described as “Goldilocks”, neither too hot nor too cold. The absence of rain also made conditions more pleasant for the competitors, umpires and other staff.
Finishing on top this year was the team of Brent Jansen and Donna Blackstock from the home club. They earned the honour of raising the heavy 25 lb shield, which they did with care but with pride.
Tournament manager Allan Wood oversaw a large number of support personnel whose time and effort contributed to the success of this Bowls South Island tournament. With the enthusiastic support of these individuals – greenskeepers, umpires, registration/statistics recorders, greens set-up staff, kitchen workers, bartenders, and even the member who must see to the engraving of the plaque, the total effort by everyone was impressive. Finally, congratulations to all the competitors who provided excellent entertainment, making some unbelievable shots and demonstrating considerable tactical acumen. We at Oak Bay hope to see you back again next year.
