Junior shines at Provincials

Oak Bay Junior shines at Provincials

Luci Ewen, Bronze Medal Winner, 2017 BC Provincial Juniors Championship

Congratulations to Luci Ewen who represented Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club at the 2017 BC Provincial Juniors Championships, which took place at Gordon Head LBC from July 7th to 9th.

Luci won the bronze medal in the Championships and was the winner of the Girls Under 15 trophy.

Luci and her lawn bowling parents, Erik and Suzanne, are all second year bowlers and members of our club.

All three are talented bowlers and we can expect to see many more presentation photos involving this family in future.

Not content to take the bronze medal, Luci also earned the Molly Beddington Trophy, awarded to the Provincial Champion Girls Under 15 winner.

Those of us with long memories will recall the diminutive Molly manning the bar at Burnside LBC, her head barely visible above the bar’s counter. She was a well loved member of Burnside and it is fitting that her memory is perpetuated through the award of this trophy which bears her name. She was a great advocate of the junior program.

A similar award, the Craig Wilson Trophy, is competed for by boys under 15. Craig, also of Burnside LBC, continues to bowl and inspire youngsters to find enjoyment and success in this sport that is dear to us all.

Luci’s success is due in no small measure to Jaymee Sidel. Jaymee, youngest member of a family bowling dynasty, like the Ewens, has been Luci’s primary coach for the past two years.

They say the proof is in the pudding so it’s safe to conclude that Jaymee’s assistance, along with help from Donna Blackstock of Oak Bay and Anne Bodley-Scott of Gordon Head LBC, made an important contribution to Luci’s recent accomplishments.

Well done Luci and best wishes for continued success.
