New Daily Draws schedule

New daily draws schedule

This News bulletin repeats the text of the All Members e-mail of July 1, 2021.

TO ALL CLUB MEMBERS

This note will outline progress in our outdoor activities planned for the first part of July, under the new provincial guidelines for BC’s Restart Step 3, which is projected to prevail until at least September 7. The most visible immediate change for us will be our first club tournament of the year on July 10. After mid-July there will be more tournaments, with possible outside barbecues for our first social activities this year.

Changes to weekly schedule

As the pandemic recedes, we will be continuing with our step-by-step plan to adapt and expand club activities.

The daily activity schedule has been altered somewhat in keeping with recent demand.  We have decided to start morning games at 10:00 a.m. rather than 10:30 a.m. and have all afternoon games start at 1:00 p.m. We are also reducing the number of shared bowling/croquet fixtures since splitting between the two games led to inadequate turnouts for both of them.

The updated schedule is shown below (B=bowling, C= Croquet. The number is the maximum number of players.)

You will be able to book the new schedule as of 9:00 a.m. Saturday July 3.

Remember that all your bookings are commitments unless you withdraw before 7:00 p.m. the evening before the game.

We will continue to maintain a one-rink separation between bowling rinks.

We will keep the maximum number of players allowed in the club at 32, until July 17. In addition, spectators are allowed in Step 3; the club will limit the number to 15 for now.

Scotch Pairs Tournament

Our first club tournament of the year will be a one-day Scotch Pairs tournament Saturday July 10. Registration will open at 8:00 a.m. Sunday July 4 and remain open until midnight Wednesday July 7. A link for registration will appear on the online calendar and the home page of the club website before July 4.

The tournament format will be four 8-end games, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Position-sharing will be allowed. Sign up and win prizes!

There will be a new process for formation of the pairs. The tournament will be set up naming only the Skips. Upon arrival, Leads will randomly draw the name of their Skip. The pair will then stay together throughout the tournament.

Looking Ahead

With the relaxed COVID Guidelines of Step 3, we can consider further activities in July and the months following, namely:

  • More club bowling tournaments will be held, both on weekdays and at weekends, every couple of weeks.  Two “croquet carnivals” for this year are in the conceptual stage. We are looking for volunteers to organize these events.
  • Mixed competitive bowling league will commence Tuesday morning July 20. The format of the competitive league will be pairs games, but this will be an individual competition; players are not designated as Skips or Leads. The pairs are created at random each week. Volunteers are still needed to run this league; otherwise it will not happen. So far, we have one volunteer for this event, but need another.
  • Outdoor social events are now possible, the likely format is a barbecue in connection with a club tournament. Again, volunteers are needed to organize and cook.

Please contact Karen Evans if you are prepared to volunteer to assist at the above events.

Maybe you have noticed the underlying theme of this note is a call for volunteers. We confess that the Games Committee members are tiring of the many hours spent organizing the daily draws, scheduling the monitors, setting up the calendars, maintaining the website, organizing tournaments, and getting members’ agreements to the ever-changing weekly plans. Please step forward to help.
