Opening Day May 7th

Opening Day

The message below was distributed last week but it appears not all members received it. So I am re-sending to everyone:

Our official Grand Opening  is taking place on Saturday May 7th. and I hope that we will have  a strong contingent of members attending this important day.  The day is important in that Mayor Kevin Murdock, Councilperson Hazel Braithwaite, MLA Murray Rankin and his assistant will be attending.  As you know the Oak Bay District has been very generous over the years in providing us with grants so it will be important that we have a good showing of members. It’s also a special day as Executive members will have the honour of delivering cake and ice cream to each of you at your table during the break(s).
Here are the details for the day:

Time:     Please arrive prior to 1pm.
Dress:    Whites or club shirts. New Bowlers can wear casual attire
Schedule:
  • 1:00pm – Members should have arrived at the Club by this time, put their tags in and have put on their shoes and collected their bowls.
  • 1:20pm – Drawmasters will have completed the draw
  • 1:30 pm- Mayor Murdoch, Councilperson Hazel Braithwath, MLA Rankin and his assistant will arrive and give opening remarks for approximately 7-10 minutes
  • The dignitaries will be assigned to rink #11 East so that they will be close to two rinks of members. Two Executive members and two coaches will help guide them through a short game until break time.
  • Pictures will be taken of the dignitaries throwing the jack and then all rinks will commence their play.
  • Depending on the number of members playing we may have to break the group into two sections for the tea/coffee/cake and ice cream event but this will be communicated to people when they arrive at the club.
It will be a fun day and if you don’t feel up to bowling you are more than welcome to be a spectator and watch the festivities. And yes , of course, you will also be joining everyone for coffee, tea, ice cream and cake. So let’s all come out and have a great start to a “new year” of lawn bowling and touching base with members you may not have seen in some time.
