The Polar Bear Bowling and Croquet were a huge success! Quite the best ever, to my mind, since we started in 2015(?). Perhaps the News item and photos on our website for 2017 (first item) sum up the enjoyment that members had playing outside bowls on Jan. 1st., minus the snow this New Year, of course.
Together with the Croquet, we had well over 50 members enjoying the warm, sunny weather – 29 who bowled 8-end games on five rinks (4 of Triples with one couple sharing, one of Pairs), plus about 10 who croqueted.
There are the following who deserve our gratitude: Brent Merchant (wearing his trade-mark short pants!) for organizing the Bowling event, John Dolman for the Croquet, Brent Jansen for setting up the rinks ahead of time, Garry Anderson for the coffee, tea and hot chocolate (not to forget Marilyn Turpin and Anneke Rubingh who helped in the kitchen), and Marian Burrow who served behind the bar. Members will be indebted too to Mort Nelson for the random draw, and Gloria Brown for taking photos of the bowling and croquet. We would also thank our Groundskeeper, John Correa, for doing a very good job of maintaining the greens in excellent playing condition.
