On Wednesday, May 10 our club had the pleasure to welcome 18 students from St. Michaels University School (SMUS) for the first school visit of 2017. The students were under the care of Bob Newman, a teacher at SMUS. Bob was met by Jan Price, our 2nd Vice President. After an exchange of greetings, the students were quickly sent to the green to test their ability to draw a bowl near to the jack.
As with past student visits, these youngsters were initially (ahem!) prone to deliver bowls in little affinity for the jack. It wasn’t long, however, before they got the knack of what was required and soon were putting their bowls near the jack.
The photos showing a melee on the green, which resembles an Easter egg hunt, is actually the end of a spider. This fun activity involves each player simultaneously delivering a bowl to a jack placed at the centre of the green. The bowl closest to the jack when all bowls have come to rest is declared the winner.
We look forward to hosting additional school visits throughout the year and always welcome an opportunity to show off our sport.
