Report by Brent Merchant. Photos by Gloria Brown and Brent Merchant.
Blue skies and balmy weather greeted the 65 members who came out for the Labour Day Tournament. Thanks go out to all the members and volunteers who rolled the greens, set-up and took down the rinks and croquet field, those who coordinated the draw and handed out the scorecards, sold the Spider and 50/50 tickets, worked in the kitchen to supply members with tasty treats and chips, the bartenders who poured your libations, those who helped enter and review the results of the games on our computer, our photographers, and having a story to capture the event and having it posted on our website. Yes, it takes a host of people to make a successful tournament and with all of the help and participation by so many members it was a pleasure to see.
In terms of prizes:
Peter Insley won the closest to the jack in the Spider and by only 1/8 of an inch beat out Joan Hall.
There were 3 random draws for teams. One for $30 and two for $45.
Pat Thomas won the 50/50 draw of $125 which might give her a half a tank of gas. Pat indicated that over all the years she has been a member this is the first time she has won a 50/50 so don’t despair as this shows we all have a chance to strike it rich.
Our three top winners were:
3rd place won $90 and it went to Jim Cliff (Skip), Judy Arsenault, and Karen Pumphrey/David Gilespie
2nd place won $120and it went to Mary Forster (Skip), David Smyth, and Mary McCutcheon
1st place won $150 and went to Layla Godfrey (Skip), Marian Burow, Tom Stewart
Thanks to everyone and don’t forget we have one more Club tournament on September 16th. The Family Appreciation tournament is to thank all those members who joined the Club under our Family Initiation membership fee year. By thanking them we will have a spider, a few games and a pizza supper. New Family members will have free pizza while other members will only be charged $5 for the pizzas. Please register soon as registration closes on September 13. Thanks everyone.
