I thank each of you for joining the Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club. My
wife Susi, and I joined in 2010 when we were both working. After our
lessons we felt like deer in the headlights trying to understand how
to deliver a bowl – and yes I kept calling them balls instead of bowls
– where to stand, how to set the mat and the jack and the list went
on. With croquet just having started at the club last year I’m going
through those same thoughts about how to play that game. You might
have similar feelings at this point but those thoughts will vanish as
you participate in the games. Your fellow members will help you as
they did for Susi and I. You will be a pro in no time at all. During
the coming year we hope you will try out the many activities the club
has to offer including lawn bowling, croquet, indoor short mat, table
tennis, darts, scrabble, cribbage, mahjong, social & contract bridge
and club suppers. As you come out it won’t be long before those
“strange faces” will soon become your friends. On behalf of the
